According to data compiled by STR, the Canadian
hotel industry reported mixed results in the three key performance
metrics for Q1 2016.
Compared with Q1 2015,
the Canadian hotel industry’s OR dipped 1.4% to 54.7%;
ADR was up 3.4% to CAD136.68; and RevPAR increased 2.0% to CAD74.79.
Among the
provinces, Prince Edward Island recorded the largest
year-on-year increases in OR (+18.1% to 36.8%) and RevPAR
(+22.0% to CAD36.57).
British Columbia posted the only
double-digit rise in ADR (+10.1% to CAD151.53) and was the only other province to experience a double-digit lift in RevPAR (+15.8%
to CAD90.43).
Alberta experienced the steepest declines in
OR (-16.7% to 47.6%) and RevPAR (-19.6% to CAD65.32).
Newfoundland and Labrador was the only other province to see a
double-digit drop in OR (-11.4% to 46.8%) and RevPAR
(-13.1% to CAD61.86).
