International music icon, Keith Urban, will be
the first artist to headline International Convention Centre
Sydney’s (ICC Sydney) entertainment theatre on 14
December 2016.
The special performance will take place at
the ICC Sydney Theatre, part of Sydney’s
premier business and entertainment events precinct in Darling
Harbour.
Featuring an innovative fan-shaped design which
brings audiences closer to the stage and provides unobstructed
views for all, the 8,000-seat (9,000 capacity) venue promises an extraordinary entertainment experience for visitors.
“We are thrilled to have a famous
Australian icon launch what will be one of the nation’s leading
entertainment venues. ICC Sydney Theatre will provide visitors
with an unparalleled experience and is just one of our premium
entertainment venues within the integrated precinct which will
host a year-round calendar of events including major concerts,
comedy shows, theatrical performances and more,” said Geoff Donaghy,
CEO of ICC Sydney. “The
concert will mark ICC Sydney’s arrival on the city’s cultural
radar and put us front and centre on the nation’s main stage.”
The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism, Major
Events and Sport, said that as Australia’s first fully-integrated
convention, exhibition and entertainment centre, ICC Sydney will
further emphasise Sydney as one of the world’s most desirable
business and leisure destinations.
“ICC Sydney is the
centrepiece of the AU$3.4 billion, 20-hectare transformation of
Darling Harbour and will help draw people from around the world to
the city. Its seamless integration, stunning architecture and
unique facilities will create a focal point for the area, which is
only a moment's walk from the CBD, Barangaroo, local universities,
Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Sydney Opera House. The
announcement of Keith Urban as ICC Sydney Theatre’s first headline
act shows the immense pulling power of the venue and the team
behind it, which will help boost tourism and the economy,” he
said.
Alongside the main ICC Sydney Theatre, ICC Sydney
itself features a range of performance and arts spaces including
the Darling Harbour Theatre, Pyrmont Theatre, Australia’s largest
ballroom, a 5,000sqm open air Event Deck and 35,000sqm of
exhibition space.
The 14 December show is part of Urban’s “ripCORD
World Tour Australia 2016”. Tickets go on sale
at 10am on 31 August.
