Qatar Airways Becomes Official Airline of UCI Road World Championships - Doha 2016

Qatar Airways has become the official airline sponsor of the UCI Road World Championships – Doha 2016.

Organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the event, which will take place 9 - 16 October 2016, is expected to see 1,000 racers from 75 countries compete for the prestigious title, cheered on by 30,000 fans and millions of spectators from all over the world.

The annual cycling competition began in 1921, and the State of Qatar will be the first Middle East country to host the world famous event.

As the official airline sponsor of the race, Qatar Airways will fly competitors from all corners of the globe to take part, and Qatar Airways Cargo will transport hundreds of high-performance road bikes to Doha.

Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of the Organising Committee of UCI Road World Championships - Doha 2016, said, “Thousands of fans, cyclists, and sports officials will be descending on Doha for this high-profile World Championships event making Qatar Airways the perfect partner to bring the world to Doha. Our event will feature a number of key landmarks across Qatar, including Qatar Foundation's Education City, Lusail, and the centre stage of our event, The Pearl-Qatar. It is due to the commitment of our partners, that this Championships event places Doha in the limelight for world of cycling.”

Qatar Airways sponsors several high-profile sports events and teams around the globe including FC Barcelona, Saudi Professional League winners Al Ahli Saudi Football Club, International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), and the Qatar Total Open, part of the Women’s Tennis Association Championships.
