Japan dominated the Asia Rugby Sevens qualifying
tournament in Hong Kong, booking Asias spot at
the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by defeating Hong Kong 24-10 in the Cup
Final on Sunday.
Japan trailed Hong Kong 0-10 at halftime, but
the Brave Blossoms fought back and scored four unanswered tries to claim
victory.
Japans womens team also took a giant step
towards Rio winning the first leg of the two-legged womens
qualifying competition defeating Kazakhstan 22-0 in the final. The
second leg of the Asia Rugby Womens Sevens Qualifier will be
played in Tokyo on 27-28 November 2015.
Hong Kong still have a chance of making it to Rio as they
qualify to play in the 16-team world reperchage. South Korea and
Sri Lanka also qualify for the reperchage as the top four teams
from the Qualifier will be bidding for the final place available,
which will take place in June 2016.
