Tigerair has launched direct flights between
Singapore and the coastal city of Quanzhou in China’s Fujian
province.
The airline operate the route three times per week,
every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Lee Lik Hsin, Tigerair’s CEO, said, “Tigerair is
constantly looking for opportunities to provide travellers with
greater choice and connectivity. Operating direct flights to
Quanzhou is one such example of how we establish or improve air
links between Singapore and other cities. We are delighted to
be strengthening our network in China, where we see tremendous
opportunities.”
Quanzhou is a major manufacturing hub for
textile, apparel and petrochemicals. Due to its strategic
location at the start of Maritime Silk Road, Quanzhou is expected
to see growth under China’s One Belt One Road initiative. In
addition, Quanzhou will appeal to Fujian Chinese from other
parts of Asia looking to rediscover their ancestral heritage.
Quanzhou
is also located within an 1.5-hour drive from Xiamen, the
key commercial centre of Fujian Province, and a 2.5-hour drive
from Fuzhou, the provincial capital of Fujian.
Promotional fares to
Quanzhou on Tigerair start from Sin$329 per round trip.
