The Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) has confirmed that the Mikhailovsky Ballet of St Petersburg, Russia will replace
the Berlin State Ballet to perform The Sleeping Beauty at the 44th
HKAF in 2016.
The Berlin State Ballet withdrew
their performances in Hong Kong due to unforeseen circumstances
within the company.
The Mikhailovsky Theatre presented the world premiere of
The Sleeping Beauty on 16 December 2011. It was especially created for this
company by renowned Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato, their then
Artistic Director of Ballet.
The Mikhailovsky Ballet, brought to prominence by Artistic
Director Fyodor Lopukhov in the 1930s, is well regarded at home
and abroad. The company is led by
Ballet Master-in-Chief Mikhail Messerer, and forms a triumvirate
of great Russian ballet companies along with the Bolshoi Ballet
and Mariinsky Ballet.
The Mikhailovsky Ballet of St Petersburg will
perform in Hong Kong between 17 and 20 March 2016. Advance booking
will begin 8 October 2015.
