The next 12 months will see some significant
changes at Perth Airport with the completion of several projects
in the current $1 billion redevelopment program.
The airport has awarded Ertech Holdings Pty Ltd
an A$16.6 million construction contract to transform the front of Terminal 1 (T1).
The T1 Forecourt Project includes the
construction of an expansive landscaped forecourt that will
improve access to the Terminal, and is part of a A$42 million
makeover of the Terminal forecourt including construction of a
spacious 27-metre entry plaza.
Ertech Executive Chairman, Jim Giumelli said, “Ertech
is pleased to be selected to undertake this important and exciting
project for Perth Airport. The contract supports the
transformation of the international gateway into Western Australia
and we are proud to be involved in another world class project.”
The first section of the expanded forecourt,
directly in front of the entry to the new Domestic Pier and
International Departures area, will be completed to coincide with
the opening of the Pier later this year.
The paved forecourt area will provide a more
pleasant environment for passengers, with new facilities such as a
bus station, improved pedestrian access and pick-up/drop-off
areas, covered walkways and seating.
Other features will include full Wi-Fi coverage,
additional lighting, public art and landscaping incorporating
plants native to Western Australia.
The forecourt redevelopment will also make
provision for future terminal expansion plans, including new
retail outlets.
Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Brad
Geatches said, “Ertech is an established Western Australian
company that brings a wealth of civil engineering and construction
experience to this project. We are pleased to welcome them to
Perth Airport and are confident that they will be able to deliver
a high quality product.”
The T1 Forecourt Project is scheduled for
completion in May 2016.
