International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC
Sydney) will run at least 20 events to test and commission every
centimetre of the venue over a three-month period before it opens
in December 2016.
ICC Sydney is the epicentre of a 20-hectare
transformation of Darling Harbour by the NSW Government to
highlight Sydney as the first choice in Australia and the Asia
Pacific region for the major events industry.
ICC Sydney is being delivered by the NSW
Government in partnership with Darling Harbour Live, comprising
Lend Lease, Hostplus, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless FM.
NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure,
the Hon. Andrew Constance MP, said, “ICC Sydney is the centrepiece
of a $3.4 billion transformation of Darling Harbour that will
completely reinvent the way business events are delivered in our
great city. Construction of ICC Sydney is well advanced, with the
convention, exhibition and entertainment buildings fast emerging
from the ground and some aspects of the façade now being
installed. This project is tracking along apace; structural steel
installation and concrete structural works are progressing and
about 1.8 million man hours have already been put in to build this
incredible new destination.”
Darling Harbour and the new convention,
exhibition and entertainment venues will continue to be publicly
owned through Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, which is
presenting a dynamic calendar of events during the redevelopment
to keep the precinct active and vibrant.
ICC Sydney Chief Executive Officer, Geoff
Donaghy, said, “ICC Sydney will open fully tested and commissioned
in December 2016. As the operator of the venue, AEG Ogden has
three months prior to opening to ensure every element of the venue
is functioning to its world class benchmark. This has the added
benefit of ensuring our staff are trained in situ for every event
type and previewing the venue to business and local communities
ahead of opening.”
