Diethelm Travel Group has become a sponsor of
this year's
inaugural
Elephant Parade in Bangkok, Thailand.
Diethelm's sponsored elephant - An Elephant
Dream - was hand painted by talented artists, and is one of
eighty eight life-size baby elephant statues which will be
displayed in Bangkok from 1 December 2015.
The parade has been created as a fun way to bring
attention to the plight of the Asian elephant, and encourage
sustainable elephant tourism programmes.
Founded by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, the
Elephant Parade auctions off the designed statues with proceeds
going to support The Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation and
a number of other charities designed to help both wild and
domesticated elephants throughout Thailand.
"As the
only private company from the travel industry participating in the
event as main sponsors, we're honoured to support such a great
cause and public endeavour," said Hans van den Born, Managing
Director of Diethelm Travel Thailand. "Elephant Parade helps
create public awareness and a conversation around the treatment of
elephants and here at Diethelm we're happy to be a part of the
conversation. Elephant tourism activities and practices are an
important part of Thailand's tourism industry, yet it's incredibly
important that we all make an effort to ensure that they're
sustainable."
