The Hong Kong Arts Festival Society has
confirmed that the Royal Shakespeare Company will return to Hong
Kong with three plays to commemorate Shakespeare’s 400th
anniversary.
Henry IV Parts I & II and Henry V follow Prince Hal’s
awakening to his role and duty as heir of the British throne,
transforming from a rebellious teenager to a great military
leader.
The acclaimed production stars Antony Sher as
Shakespeare’s most beloved comic character Falstaff and Alex
Hassell as Hal and features an outstanding ensemble cast.
Though each of the Henry plays is self-contained and can be
watched as a stand-alone story, only by seeing all three would you
be able to experience the true intention of Shakespeare, capturing
the politics of King and Country.
Performances, part of Royal Shaespeare's
Great Cycle of Kings programme, will run from 4 to 13 March 2016.
Other performances confirmed for 2016 include celebrated soprano Anna Netrebko making her long-awaited Asian
concert debut; three choral performances: Thomanerchor Leipzig and
Gewandhausorchester Leipzig in St Matthew Passion; three-time
Grammy Award-winning Rundfunkchor Berlin with U-Theatre in LOVER;
and Maestro Gianandrea Noseda conducting his Italian forces in
Verdi’s Requiem.
And if you are looking for concerts which make you
want to get up and dance, don’t miss the Cuban superstars from the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club bidding their final farewell and
the Romanian brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia in their “world shaking”
tour.
