British Airways’ first-ever “Travel Habit
Survey” revealed that for the people of Hong Kong, the English
football legend, David Beckham, is the first choice as a flying
companion.
Other popular choices included Harry Potter actress and
model, Emma Watson and Oscar nominated actor, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Earlier this year, British Airways asked people
in Hong Kong to answer a selection of questions on their travel
habits. The survey received nearly 1,000 responses.
Almost half of all the respondents selected London as the top
European destination, followed by Paris in France, Rome in Italy
and Prague in the Czech Republic.
Apart from the
essential items such as passports, mobile phones and money, the
survey showed that for the people of Hong Kong, the most crucial
item for the flight is a laptop or tablet. A further 21% of the
participants, mainly females, always take skincare products and
make-up on board the plane.
The number one irritation for many of the
respondents (30%), is their seat being kicked from behind by
another passenger, followed closely by the annoyance of a fully
reclined seat in front of them (21%). Almost one out of five
people are annoyed by parents who cannot control their children
during the flight.
According to the results,
virtually all of the respondents (98%) watch at least one movie
during the flight. When choosing the movie genre, comedy topped
the list with 33%, and only two% dared to watch a thriller during
the flight.
A large proportion of the respondents
(86%) choose to eat the in-flight meal and only 3% choose to
have an alcoholic beverage during the flight. Nearly all the
participants (92%) enjoy reading the in-flight magazine.
Tracy Dedman, British Airways’ regional general manager,
Greater China and the Philippines said, “The
results have proven to be very interesting and useful. We are
always looking at ways to ensure that we give our customers the
very best experience with British Airways. The findings from this
survey help us focus on the areas that are really important to
Hong Kong travellers.”
Results from the survey
also showed:
· 33% chose to shop before boarding the flight; · 43% prefer getting the boarding passes from the check-in
counters; · 43% of respondents would spend between one to
two hours packing for a week-long holiday; · 18% of the
respondents always book their hotel accommodation through the
website of the airline; and · 41% manage to sleep for more than
four hours during a long-haul flight.
