From 5 May 2015, Finnairs Light ticket type, a
hand-baggage only fare, will be offered on flights throughout
Finnairs network in Europe and the Middle East, with the
exception of Russia.
Light is the lowest-fare option in Finnairs
ticket type offering. All other ticket types continue to include
checked baggage.
Since we introduced Light fares on domestic,
Scandinavian and Baltic routes last March, we have seen a positive
reaction from customers who tend to travel without checked
baggage, particularly from travellers on short trips, said Tomi
Hnninen, Vice President, Revenue Management and Pricing. We are
hopeful that by extending this offering in more markets, Finnairs
range of ticket types offers a suitable option for every type of
traveller.
Finnair Plus Platinum, Gold and Silver members,
as well as members of equivalent oneworld loyalty programs in the
Emerald or Sapphire tiers, are entitled to one extra piece of
checked baggage in addition to that which is provided by their
ticket type. Thus, those frequent flyers can check one bag free of
charge while flying with Light tickets.
If needed, checked
baggage can be purchased in advance or at the airport. The
prepayment baggage charge is considerably lower than the airport
baggage charge.
Light tickets are not currently offered on long-haul
intercontinental flights.
