Vienna's tourism industry has just experienced
its best year ever: 13,524,000 visitor overnights, 6.3% more than
in 2013 and an all-time high.
Norbert Kettner , Managing Director of the
Vienna Tourist Board, said, "International bednights account for
around 82% of Vienna's total volume of bednights. This not only
reflects Vienna's continued attractiveness, but also shows that
our long-term systematic internationalization strategy
diversifying into many different markets is paying off."
The Vienna Tourist Board's objective now is to
increase Vienna's overnight figures to 18 million by the year
2020.
In 2014, Vienna's ten top markets were once
again headed by Germany with 2,650,000 bednights (+5%), followed
by Austria (2,481,000 bednights, +7%), the USA (748,000, +14%),
Italy (696,000, +14%) and Russia (603,000, -15%).
Places 6 to 10 were taken by the United
Kingdom (500,000, +11%), Switzerland (399,000, +4%), Spain
(388,000, +8%), France (365,000, +4%) and Japan (300,000, -2%).
Strong growth was also reported from China
(237,000, +13%), South Korea (156,000, +26%), Brazil (128,000,
+11%) and India (65,000, +18%).
Between December 2013 and December 2014,
Vienna's accommodation capacity increased by 2,900 beds (+4.9%) to
around 61,400 beds, whilst room occupancy was about 71% (2013:
