Singapore Airlines (SIA) has confirmed that it
will organise a special charity flight for some 300 beneficiaries
of the Community Chest on the world’s largest aircraft, the Airbus
A380, as part of the airline’s SG50 activities.
A first for SIA, the three hour charity flight
will be operated on 29 May 2015.
Beneficiaries will include children with
special needs, adults with disabilities, as well as disadvantaged
elderly and families, many of whom have never had the opportunity
to take a flight.
In addition to enjoying an inflight meal
service,
beneficiaries will be treated to special performances by SIA’s
cabin crew during the special flight.
Volunteers
from SIA, comprising ground staff, cabin crew and pilots, will be
on hand to assist the beneficiaries, so as to make their
experience a delightful, memorable and comfortable one.
Community Chest Managing Director, Ms Ng Ling Ling, said, “Flying
for the first time is a wonderful experience. It is extra
special for those who have had to face many challenges in their lives. For these beneficiaries, it is not just a simple flight –
it is the confidence that anything is possible. We are grateful to
SIA for extending this opportunity to beneficiaries of
Community Chest, and inspiring them to look beyond their
challenges.”
The Community Chest of Singapore will be raising
funds through this event. Members of the public can play a part
by donating to Community Chest, with 100% of the donations
going towards social service programmes for the
underprivileged. Under the Care & Share Movement for SG50, led by
Community Chest, the donations will be matched
dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government, doubling the benefit to
the less fortunate.
SIA’s partners helping to make the flight possible include Airbus,
Changi Airport Group, SATS and Shell Aviation.
