Malindo Air has announced that it will launch
flights between Kuala Lumpur and Perth on 19 November 2015.
Malindo Air will initially operate a daily
service between Perth and the Malaysian capital, increasing to 11
times per week from 3 December 2015.
The airline will operate the route with
180-seat Boeing 737-900 aircraft.
Malindo Air was launched as a joint venture between Malaysia’s
National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) (51%) and Lion
Air of Indonesia (49%).
“We are delighted to welcome the first Malindo
Air service to Australia,” said Brad Geatches, Chief Executive
Officer, Perth Airport. “Last year, more than 300,000
passengers travelled between Perth and Malaysia, and it remains
our fifth largest international market. Malaysia is a popular
holiday destination and, combined with a large number of
passengers also visiting friends and relatives, will continue as
one of Perth’s core markets for many years to come. As the
third carrier on the Perth to Kuala Lumpur route, Western
Australians now have more options than ever before when travelling
to Asia and onward to other destinations.”
