A new cooking school has opened in Omans Qantab fishing village.

From the outside, Bait al Bilad looks like any other home in the quaint fishing village and thats just the way its owner Clara Zawawi from Ocean Blue International wants it.

When people come to Bait al Bilad, we want them to literally feel at home in Oman and to learn not only about how to prepare some of Omans favourite dishes but to also gain an understand of Omans culture and traditions, said Ms Zawawi.

Ocean Blue Internationals private cooking classes at Bail al Bilad are limited to just six guests who work alongside local Omani ladies and chefs to prepare three traditional meals with accompaniments and dessert.

The dishes include Chicken Kabuli (chicken with rice), Marak Samak (coconut kingfish curry), Okra Marak (okra and tomato curry) with the traditional accompaniments of Raita (yoghurt & cucumber salad) and Rokhal (flat bread). Dessert is the irresistible Lokhaimat honeyed-dumplings.

Classes cost OMR45 per person and extend from 11am until 1pm daily when guests feast on their culinary creations.

All ingredients and tuition are provided along with copies of the recipes, a commemorative copy of the Azzura Bait al Bilad Cookbook and a giftpack of Omani spices.

Bookings are essential as the private classes are held on demand every day except for Friday and Saturday.
