Albert Cheong has been appointed as Group
General Manager of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.
As Group GM, Albert is
responsible for the operations of the 1,234-room multi-property
hotel development within the integrated Sunway Resort City in
Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He will play
a pivotal role in the refreshment of hotel products, services and programmes - including that of food and beverage facilities -
to maintain a competitive edge in line with trends shaping the
hospitality and travel and tourism industries.
Mandy Chew, CEO of Sunway International Hotels & Resorts,
said,
“We are pleased to have Albert Cheong join the hospitality
division. His hands-on and in-depth experience in various areas of
hotel management, as well as the diverse types of properties that
he has assumed high-level positions in, will certainly place him
in good stead as he takes on his role as Group General Manager of
one of the largest hotel developments in greater Kuala Lumpur.”
Albert has opened as well as managed hotels
across Asia.
Prior to joining Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa,
he worked for the
last three years as Area General Manager with The Landmark
Lancaster Hotel Group, a company that has hotels in Bangkok and London. He
was previously with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts for close to 30
years, and has held various management positions including being
General Manager of the hotel group’s properties in Bali,
Indonesia; Shenzhen, Wuhan and Beijing in China; Singapore; and
Yangon in Myanmar.
Albert attained his professional
qualification from the School of Hotel Management, Cornell
University in Ithaca, New York, USA in 1993 following the
completion of a General Manager’s Program as well as Professional
Development Programs in Marketing, Finance, Food & Beverage and
Human Resources.
He is highly proficient in English as well as spoken and written Bahasa Malaysia. He is
also able to converse in
Putonghua, Cantonese and Fujian dialects, having spent about a
decade in China.
Speaking of his appointment, Albert said, “I am honoured and thrilled to be
back in Malaysia after an absence of more than 20 years. It is a
privilege to be leading the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa team at this
exciting time as we move into Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and Sunway Group’s 40th Anniversary this year, apart from gearing towards realising the Hotel’s vision of Becoming a Destination of Distinction in Asia by 2015. I have a tall order and it is my
every intention to share my skills, experience and passion for hospitality with my team.”
