Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has
opened a new Group Zone, a meeting space and waiting area for rent
to large traveling groups of up to 200 people.
The DFW Group Zone
is the first of its kind of facility at any airport in the
Americas, and gives large groups their own reserved space to
gather and collaborate while waiting for their next flight.
The
Group Zone primarily caters to the MICE travel market.
“DFW is looking to enhance the passenger
experience for all travelers coming through our airport, and one
opportunity we found was to better serve the groups segment of the market, which is among one of the fastest growing travel sectors
in the world,” said Ken Buchanan, executive vice president of
revenue management at DFW International Airport. “The MICE travel
market brings a lot of people through DFW and we’ve found a way to
keep those big groups together comfortably and provide them better
service while at DFW with our new Group Zone.”
The Group
Zone is located inside security in Terminal B and has over 8,000
square feet of space to accommodate groups of up to 200 people.
The space is also equipped to store luggage with a group member,
allowing others to shop or dine in the terminals at the more than
200 DFW shops and restaurants.
“The feedback we received
from some of our tour operators and travel agents indicated that
they would like to have a space that they could utilize without
having to leave the secure side of the airport,” said Sharon
McCloskey, vice president of marketing services for DFW. “The
Group Zone has given us another feature in our diverse portfolio
of products to accommodate the 60 million passengers that pass
through our airport every year.”
Travel groups can book the Group Zone online by filling out
an online form
to reserve space. The space will hold groups of 20 to 200 people
and is available 24 hours a day year round. Regardless of group
size, the space can be rented out for $75 per hour or $400 for the
full day.
