InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a management agreement with Katong Holdings to develop Singapore's first Hotel Indigo property at Joo Chiat, one of the country's key heritage sites.

The 131-room Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong will mark the entry of IHG's boutique brand onto Singapore's shores.

The deal will also see the development of the third and largest Holiday Inn Express in Singapore: the 451-room Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong.

Both hotels will be located in the Joo Chiat neighbourhood of Katong in the eastern part of Singapore, a short 15-minute drive from Changi Airport and in close proximity to the upcoming Marine Parade metro station.

Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong will feature an all-day dining restaurant and a second food and beverage outlet. The hotel will also have one meeting room, a swimming pool, fitness centre and a "sanctuary space". Free Wi-Fi will be available in guest rooms and throughout the hotel.

Both hotels are expected to open in 2016.

Clarence Tan, Senior Vice President, Development, Asia, Middle East and Africa, IHG, said, "The opening of these two hotels in partnership with Katong Holdings Private Limited will be significant milestones for our presence in Singapore. There is a great story to tell with the rich heritage of the Joo Chiat area, which makes it the perfect location for our first Hotel Indigo. We will design the hotel to bring out the neighbourhood story in true Hotel Indigo fashion. Opening our third Holiday Inn Express alongside it means we are able to help our value-conscious guests experience the authentic ethnic cultures of Singapore from a whole new part of the city."
