SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore
Airlines, has commenced a wireless inflight entertainment
system trial on one of its Airbus A320 aircraft.
During this
trial, customers will be able to stream a wide variety of
multimedia content such as movies, TV programmes and music
directly onto their personal devices while onboard their flight.
Customers can access this inflight entertainment
content through their laptops, Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android
tablets and smartphones.
Access to the inflight content,
which will complement SilkAir’s existing overhead entertainment
system, will be complimentary for customers.
“SilkAir has
always explored opportunities to improve our service offerings and
ensure our customers have an enjoyable travel experience. This
initiative was introduced based on feedback from customers who
wanted access to more inflight entertainment options on our
flights. Upon successful trial, we look forward to introducing
this system across our aircraft fleet by next year, providing
customers with the complete SilkAir experience,” said Chief
Executive, Mr. Leslie Thng.
SilkAir has partnered
Panasonic Avionics Corporation for this trial, using the company’s
eXW Wireless IFE solution.
In addition to customers’
feedback, SilkAir will be monitoring technical performance of the
wireless streaming during this pilot trial.
