The Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok will host a black
tie
“Gala Dinner of Confrérie du Sabre, Where Sword Meets Bottle” on
Tuesday, 1 April 2014, at 7:00pm.
The art of Sabrage, an act which became
popular in Napoleonic times, is the technique of severing the top
off a Champagne bottle with a sword’s blade.
The saber is slid
along the body of the bottle to break the entire neck away from
the bottle. The blunt side of the sword is used to separate the
collar from the neck of the bottle, and an experienced sommelier
can open the bottle with little loss of Champagne.
The special evening at the Rembrandt Hotel will begin with the
traditional Sabrage ceremony conducted by Jean-Claude Jalloux, the
founder of la Confrérie du Sabre d’Or at the lobby, and will be
followed with a Gala Dinner at Da Vinci restaurant, the fine
dining restaurant on the hotel's 4th floor.
A sumptuous five-course
menu awaits, with highlights such as Smoked Oyster, Foie-gras, Tiger
Prawn, Suckling Pig and Caviar paired with signature Champagnes
from G.H. Mumm and wines from Vinum Lector.
The price for the dinner it THB 3,600 net per person, and THB 5,700 net per
person if you also wish to try Sabrage on a bottle of Champagne
yourself.
Availability is limited, so advanced
reservations are highly recommended.
