The Eaton, Hong Kong has also been awarded
the EarthCheck Silver Certificate for its ongoing commitment to
environmentally friendly practices and causes, and will be aiming
for Gold in 2015.
Since
2009, Eaton, Hong Kong has been actively strengthening its commitment to sustainability, and has incorporated the
following concepts into
numerous areas of the hotel:
Green Wall – featuring 3,600 Sansevieria
trifasciata plants that assist in improving indoor air quality
through photosynthesis.
Use of Sustainable and Renewable
Resources – fully sustainable and renewable bamboo wood material
is used as an alternative to wood for lobby walling to minimise
the impact of industrial logging.
Launch of Smart Room
Product – To demonstrate of how stylish well-chosen “green”
products can be today, the room uses only LED
lighting, a modern environmentally-friendly woven-vinyl flooring
and acoustic wall panels that are produced with
recycled materials.
The hotel has also invested in new technology to minimise
plastic waste. The
hotel invested HK$500,000 to install an eco-friendly drinking
water purification system that allows glass bottles to be re-used,
which in turn allowed the
Eaton, Hong
Kong to suspend the use of plastic bottled water. A move, that
many other hotels in the region could learn from.
