Next year's Xterra Mauritius Triathlon will take
place on 18 April 2015.
Now in its third year, the off-road
triathlon will start and finish at the Outrigger Mauritius Resort
and Spa with participants testing their determination and drive as
they swim, bike and run through the spectacular plantations and
forests of the adjacent Bel Ombre nature reserve located along the
southern tip of the island.
Participants are expected to fly into Mauritius
from Reunion,
Australia, UK, France, South Africa, and elsewhere.
Sam
Gardner of the UK won the 2014 Xterra Mauritius in a time of just
over 2 hours 37 minutes on 24 May this year, closely followed by
athletes from Mauritius, France, Reunion and South Africa.
"Whether you compete or watch the Xterra, everyone will get a real
sense of place and a feel for the wonderful landscapes of Bel
Ombre," said Frederic Chretien, General Manager of Outrigger
Mauritius Resort and Spa. "Outrigger has the location and
facilities that active lifestyle visitors enjoy. Sponsoring Xterra
Mauritius is a natural fit for us."
On 18 April 2015 the Xterra
Mauritius Challenge will be a 1.5km swim, 30km mountain bike ride
and a 10km trail run. The Xterra Mauritius Sprint will be a 500m
swim, a 15km mountain bike ride and a 5km run.
Entry is
open to all, and age group winners will have the opportunity to
qualify for the Outrigger-sponsored Xterra Off-Road Triathlon World Championship held on the island of Maui in Hawaii, where
Outrigger Resorts was founded 67 years ago.
As presenting
sponsor of the Xterra Mauritius Triathlon, Outrigger is offering exclusive
discounted rates to participants and their families.
In Hawaii, in addition to the Xterra Off-Road Triathlon
World Championship held each October on Maui, Outrigger also
sponsors the Xterra Trail Run World Championship race, which this
year is being held on 7 December on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
"From the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, Outrigger is thrilled
to support diverse sports events throughout the year in some of
the world's most exotic locations," said Bitsy Kelley, vice
president of corporate communications for Outrigger Enterprises
Group. "We're in this for the long run and look forward to
sponsoring both local and global sporting events for years to
come."
