Kerzner International Holdings and China Gezhouba Group Real Estate have commenced construction on the One&Only Sanya on Haitang Bay in Hainan, China.

Featuring 192 guest rooms, suites and villas, the One&Only Sanya will be the first resort in China for the One&Only brand.

Jean Michel Gathy, Principal of Denniston International Architects, has been engaged for the design, working with Kerzner’s development and design team lead by Sol Kerzner, Chairman, Kerzner International and Alan Leibman, CEO.

Bensley Design Studios will complement the design of the resort through landscape architecture, highlighting the local flora and fauna found on Hainan as well as water features throughout.

Guest accommodations will range from 2-4 bedroom private villas and a Presidential suite to executive suites and guest rooms, to be situated within either the main Manor House or Mansions, providing an exclusive, residential feel.

“We are excited to introduce the One&Only experience to China,” said Mark DeCocinis, President/Chief Operating Officer, One&Only Resorts. “We have the opportunity to redefine the ultra- luxury experience in the region and I am confident that with our partners, we will introduce a truly extraordinary One&Only resort.”

The six private villas, offering either two, three or four bedrooms will have private pools and barbeque areas. Each villa will welcome guests through a courtyard, which leads to an expansive living and dining area, opening to a spacious terrace. Private outdoor living spaces will include day beds, chaise lounges and dining al fresco – a perfect set-up to enjoy private outdoor dining and personal family time.

The Manor House will provide a stylish residential feel with entry level guest rooms of generous proportion - a minimum of 70 square metres. Each of these guest rooms will have a separate seating area and a spacious terrace or balcony, overlooking the waters of the South China Sea or the vast water gardens of the resort. Bathrooms are designed for relaxation with every thoughtful detail including a free-standing bathtub, separate rainfall shower and dual vanities.

In addition, the Manor House will feature six Executive Suites that offer 141 square metres of space with a plush lounge, pantry for entertaining, dining room for six plus a guest bathroom. The expansive master bathroom will offer a rainfall shower, as well as an oversized bath overlooking the South China Sea. The suite’s sprawling terrace will offer dual day beds, as well as opportunity to dine al fresco.

The Presidential Suite, also in the Manor House, will welcome guests with a private lobby to the 350 metre suite, providing two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. An impressive living room, with floor to ceiling windows and a baby grand piano, opens on to a large terrace – creating the perfect place for intimate gatherings and entertaining.

The Presidential Suite will offer dining for 10, supported by both a wet and dry kitchen, as well as dining al fresco for 6 on the terrace. The Master Bedroom will feature a private study and expansive en suite bath, both offering secluded terraces. The walk-in wardrobe will provide grand space and thoughtful organization. The second bedroom will have an ensuite bath and separate lounge. A private bedroom for staff will also be available.

Five low rise Mansions will offer an elevated sense of privacy and space with separate courtyard entrance and a mix of guest rooms and suites - some with private pools. Accommodation may be reserved individually or entire Mansions may be reserved to provide the perfect private accommodation for families or friends travelling together.

The resort will also house an One&Only Spa and state-of-the-art fitness centre incorporating all elements of wellbeing, health and fitness. The spa will fuse ancient eastern traditions and holistic practices with more western spa therapies and will also include an authentic Hammam, long having played a part in the cultural and social life of eastern cities.
