The 30-suite 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai will host an Organic
Gourmet Festival extravaganza from 9-12 October 2014.
The festival
will feature guest chefs, organic cuisine and wines, local market
and hotel herb garden tours with the chefs, and daily cooking
demonstrations.
Sumptuous four-course dinners on the first two
evenings and an exquisite Sunday brunch will showcase a different
chef’s cuisine, while the six-course Gala Dinner on 11 October
will be a joint collaborative masterpiece by the three chefs who
will each prepare two courses.
The Gala Dinner will include an
auction to raise funds for Chiang Mai’s School of Life which is
supported by the hotel.
Organic produce will be used from various
suppliers throughout Thailand and specifically from Chiang Mai,
including the renowned Royal Projects and a local hill tribe that
produces organic eggs.
The chefs participating in the Organic
Gourmet Festival
include:
Global Celebrity Chef Wan, the Food Ambassador of
Malaysia. Chef Wan is a colourful character with a huge
personality. He is the first Asian chef signed up by Fox TV to
host a culinary TV Show, called “East Bites West”, and even filmed one
of his segments for the programme at 137 Pillars House last year. Chef Wan will be serving culinary
masterpieces from the royal palaces of the various Malay states
which incorporate Arabic, Turkish, Thai and Indian influences.
Chef Tammasak Chootong is the charismatic owner of the famous
Suay Restaurant in Phuket. He created the concept for the hotel’s
popular Palette restaurant in 2012. Chef Tammasak has worked in a
number of world class restaurants and hotels in Germany and
Thailand as well as on the prestigious QE II Cruise Liner. His
cooking style focuses on light and healthy dishes and his cuisine
during the festival will showcase modern Thai and pan-Asian
influences with a western cooking technique.
137 Pillars
House Executive Chef Amporn Choeng-Ngam. In addition to working at
several of Thailand’s top properties, Chef Amporn has worked in
Ukraine, Bali and as the private chef to Princess Hassah bint
Abdulaziz Al Saud in Saudi Arabia. He has won Gold and Silver
medals in cooking competitions in Thailand and Bali. Chef Amporn
will prepare nutritious cuisine with a focus on seafood dishes
incorporating traditional French and Middle Eastern influences, as
well as contemporary Thai food.
“We have created this
annual event to highlight the healthy options to our guests and to
promote the wide range of organic cuisine that is readily
available in Chiang Mai as there’s growing awareness of organic
cuisine and its health benefits. At the same time, we’ll support
local producers through this effort,” said
Manfred Ilg, General
Manager, 137 Pillars House. “Apart from enjoying the chefs’
cooking during the festival, guests can learn how to create their
own menus through the cooking demonstrations, and take the
knowledge home with them to incorporate into their daily lives.”
