Guinness World Records has confirmed that iFly
Singapore is now officially the World’s Largest Indoor Skydiving
Wind Tunnel.
The iFly Singapore’s vertical wind tunnel has an
internal flying volume of 373.190 m³ (13,179.08 ft³), a height of
56.5ft and a diameter of 16.5ft making it the largest of its kind
in the world. The volumes stated are the part of the wind tunnel
in which simulated skydives can be made. The iFly Singapore’s wind
tunnel has the capacity to accommodate up to 20 professional
flyers at any one time.
Lawrence Koh, Founder and Managing Director of
iFly Singapore said, “We are thrilled to be recognised by the
Guinness World Records as the World’s Largest Indoor Skydiving
Wind Tunnel. We are very proud of all the milestones that we have
achieved over the past 2 years, but this is particularly
satisfying and really puts iFly Singapore on the map.”
The
Guinness World Record comes after a string of firsts achieved by
iFly Singapore in the short period of two years since its launch
in 2011. In December last year iFly Singapore hosted the inaugural
Indoor Skydiving World Championships. This event saw the
introduction of the first international indoor skydiving
championships in Asia Pacific as well as the first tandem
skydiving event on the Palawan Beach, Sentosa.
Since opening the wind tunnel in May 2011, a first-of-its-kind
attraction for Singapore, iFly Singapore has hosted more than 96,000 visitors where over 45% of these visitors have been
Singaporeans.
The state of the art wind tunnel allows anyone from
first time flyers, to professional skydivers, the opportunity to
fly in an easily accessible, realistic, safe and affordable setting over-looking the South China Sea.
“It’s an exciting time for iFly Singapore and we have many
projects that we will be launching in the coming months. Last
year’s World Championships were a resounding success. As a result
of the World Championships we have seen more people taking up the
sport of indoor skydiving, with returning and professional flyers
now featuring as 25% per cent of our market and we are looking
forward to hosting the World Championships again next year . I
started this business to share my love of flight with everyone,
and making this a safe and wonderful experience for all is still
at the core of everything we do,” added Mr. Koh.
