InterContinental Hotels Group has expanded its portfolio of hotels in the UK with the signing of the Crowne Plaza London – Albert Embankment.

The hotel is due to open in the spring of 2015.

Operating under a franchise agreement with Cannon Corporate UK Ltd, the hotel is a new build property that will feature in excess of 130 guest rooms and a restaurant overlooking the River Thames.

Albert Embankment is undergoing significant regeneration and due to its close proximity to Lambeth Palace, the Houses of Parliament and the corporate centres of Waterloo and Westminster, the Crowne Plaza London – Albert Embankment is set to become a hub for meetings, conferences and events in London.

Robert Shepherd, Chief Development Officer at IHG said, “It’s fantastic to be signing another great upscale hotel in this thriving part of London less than a year after IHG opened InterContinental London Westminster. We have an enormous opportunity to build on what has already been achieved in London and we are showing no signs of slowing down. The UK market offers a wealth of development opportunities that are yet to be realised. This hotel is a great example of IHG’s growth here and a strong sign of confidence in our brands.”

The Crowne Plaza brand global portfolio has doubled since 2003 to nearly 400 hotels, with a further 97 in the pipeline due to open in the next three to five years.
