Funds raised for charity by the Standard
Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013 have hit record highs.
Fundraising efforts from corporate clients,
Standard Chartered staff, and general public in the Hong Kong
community saw the 2013 Marathon Charity Programme collectively
raise over HK$ 6.6 million for its three designated charities:
Standard Chartered's global fundraising initiative "Seeing is
Believing - ORBIS", the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports
Association for the Physically Disabled, and the Hong Kong
Anti-Cancer Society.
This year, a record-breaking number
of over 2,000 runners created fundraising pages through the
Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon Charity Programme, raising
over HK$ 2 million in total.
Father and son duo Eric and Ezmond
Cheung were the top fundraisers, between them raising more than
HK$ 500K of which over HK$ 300K from the online portal alone.
Motivated by the memory of Eric's wife who lost her struggle
against cancer, the two took part in the 10km race and together
set up a fundraising page to raise money for the Hong Kong
Anti-Cancer Society in support of other families battling with
cancer.

The
Corporate Challenge and SME Marathon Cup were set up not only to
encourage corporations to get their staff involved in running, but
also to generate funds for charity. In order to show the
appreciation for the donors, the awards for both competitions of
the highest team donors were given to KPMG for the Corporate
Challenge and Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association,
and Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association for the SME
Marathon Cup.
Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and
Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong)
Limited, said, "We are very grateful for the keen support of the
business community, which ensured the success of the Corporate
Challenge and SME Marathon Cup. This year, 368 corporate client
teams and 319 SME teams participated in the race, raising a substantial amount for the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports
Association for the Physically Disabled and "Seeing is Believing -
ORBIS", respectively. We look forward to seeing the business
community gather at the Marathon again next year to support these
good causes."
General public support was
demonstrated in addition to monetary contribution. The "One Like,
One Giving Heart" Facebook Campaign received tremendous support
from the local and overseas community of the Standard Chartered
Hong Kong Marathon Facebook page. The campaign accumulated more
than 50,000 "Likes" and helped the three designated charities further raised over HK$ 130K and helped further spread the charity
spirit of the Marathon to a wider audience.
Runners, corporates, other organisations and the general public
all gave full support to this year's Standard Chartered Hong Kong
Marathon Charity Programme, raising HK$ 2,150,968 for "Seeing is
Believing - ORBIS", HK$ 2,048,584 for the Hong Kong Paralympic
Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, and
