Standard Chartered has renewed funding to
Operation Breakthrough, a Hong Kong Police-led volunteer programme
that offers sporting opportunities to children from disadvantaged
backgrounds.
The bank will continue sponsorship of
Operation Breakthrough Rugby - an expansion of Operation
Breakthrough - for another three years, and will provide funds of
HK$900,000 for the period 2013 to 2016.
Operation Breakthrough Rugby focuses on
leveraging the positive attributes of sports to help youths in the
juvenile crime prevention programme turn their lives around. It
organises activities such as training clinics, exchange tours and
competitive matches to help youths build positivity, self-esteem
and confidence.
"Standard Chartered is proud to renew our
sponsorship in support of Operation Breakthrough, a truly unique
and effective programme that we believe has made a significant
difference in giving youths in this community an opportunity to
see how the core values of rugby - teamwork, respect, discipline,
enjoyment and sportsmanship - can play a big part in positively
changing one's life," said Mike Rees, Group Executive Director and
Chief Executive Officer of Wholesale Banking of Standard
Chartered.
