The
Boeing 787 Dreamliner – a brand new aircraft that LAN will
incorporate into its fleet by the end of 2012 – will land for the
first time in Chile on 27 March 2012, making it one of the major
attractions of the International Air and Space Fair, FIDAE.
During
the fair, LAN will have an interactive stand which will enable the
public to interact with some of the features that this new
aircraft offers. They also will be able to see what the LAN 787
cabin will look like, and learn which routes the aircraft will
first fly within the LAN network.
LAN will be the first airline in Latin America,
and one of the first in the world, to incorporate this aircraft,
receiving the first of 32 Boeing 787s in late 2012. The
acquisition of Boeing 787s is one of the largest investments in
LAN’s history..
The
passenger’s experience on the Boeing 787 features:
• Electronic auto-dimming windows and dynamic lighting to
create a better atmosphere, thus preparing the passenger for the
different stages and times during the flight (day, night) and for
the time zone to which it is arriving.
• Larger windows:
the windows of this aircraft have 40% more surface area than
windows on current aircraft, which will give all passengers in all
rows a better view.
• 30% more storage space for carry-on
luggage.
• Aerodynamics and technology that reduce the
impact felt by the passengers due to turbulence. In addition, the
pressurization of the cabin to a lower altitude (6,000 feet
instead of 8,000) will result in the reduction of headaches or
other symptoms a passenger might experience when flying.
•
New air humidification techniques in the passenger cabin,
significantly reducing fatigue and dryness associated with long
trips.
• A more enjoyable trip thanks to the technology of
the engines that make them quieter both inside and outside the
aircraft.
Some of the environmental benefits of the 787
include:
• Emission of up to 20% less CO2 than similar
aircraft (B767).
• Up to 40% less noise footprint
than similar aircraft on takeoff, the period of greatest noise inflight.
• 50% of the structure is a carbon fibre composite
material, which makes it a first in the industry, this material
being more resistant to fatigue and corrosion. This allows,
moreover, that the manufacturing process will produce less
non-recyclable waste.
At the Singapore Airshow last month a Boeing 787
Dreamliner - ZA003 - was on the static display. You can see the
