Kamalaya, a Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa on Koh Samui, Thailand, has launched a Sleep Enhancement program.

The focus of the Sleep Enhancement program is to re-establish healthy and restful sleep while addressing sleep issues and imbalances.

Sleep difficulties will be addressed through a combination of core treatments and therapies drawing from naturopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, massage therapy and mind-body balance.

Treatments will incorporate Shirodhara, Royal Ayurvedic massage, acupuncture, yoga, herbal foot baths with foot massage, the addition of herbs & supplements as well as mentoring to deal with lifestyle factors and personal issues.

This program will be both a stand-alone program within the category of Healthy Living, as well as an add-on to some of Kamalaya’s other programs.

Kamalaya co-founder Karina Stewart, doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, formulated the Sleep Enhancement program in response to a need from guests. “A high proportion of our guests mention sleep as an issue and concern in their lives – most are suffering from disruption to a healthy sleep cycle whether it is poor quality sleep, insufficient sleep or an inability to fall asleep. This program is a vital addition to our portfolio as we know sufficient quality sleep is a key ingredient to optimal wellness and vitality,” Ms. Stewart said.

Sleeping issues can have a base in a range of different health imbalances. Various reasons for disturbance include; biochemical, physiological, lifestyle, dietary, psychological and emotional causes. An inadequate amount of sleep has been associated with higher risks of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and more recently colon cancer.

Stanford University’s Sleep Laboratory Founder and Director Dr. William Dement, said, “Healthful sleep has been empirically proven to be the single most important factor in predicting longevity, more influential than diet, exercise or heredity.”

Depending on the cause it can take from days to months to re-establish a good sleep cycle. With the Sleep Enhancement program the resort is hoping to address as many factors as possible during a guest’s visit. Programs of various lengths are available to choose from starting with a five-night minimum.

“We have put together a powerful combination of tailored treatments, advice and remedies to combat sleep deprivation. This therapeutic and preventative program will address life’s stresses and strains as well as health imbalances which deplete sleep quality and impact an individual’s health,” added Ms. Stewart.

A five-night stay at Kamalaya with 5-night Sleep programme starts from A$2,763.67.
