It was a day to remember. When Mr Tan Thian
Siong boarded his Finnair flight AY81 from Helsinki to Singapore,
little did he expect it to be so eventful, including a free
business class upgrade on board.
Mr Tan Thian Siong, a 51-year-old Singaporean,
crane supply manager was given the star treatment as Finnair and
Changi Airport Group (CAG) rolled out the red carpet to welcome
him as the airline’s 100,000th passenger since Finnair launched
flights from Singapore to Helsinki in May 2011.
For being the lucky 100,000th Finnair passenger,
Mr Tan won a pair of return air tickets to any one
of the more than 50 European destinations that Finnair flies to.
He also won Sin$200 worth of Changi shopping vouchers, courtesy
of CAG.
That was not the only surprise of the day. Passengers
who arrived aboard the specially painted Finnair plane with its
colourful and distinctive Marimekko Unikko poppy flowers, were
also greeted by ‘Santas’ bearing gifts at the baggage claims
carousel.
With lots of “Ho, Ho, Ho,” Santas and Santarinas were
kept busy handing out exclusive Marimekko tote bags to Finnair passengers to mark the airline’s 100,000th passenger milestone
on the route.
“We think that there is no better way to celebrate
an important milestone such as this than with our loyal
customers. This is also in keeping with the season’s spirit of
giving and end-of-year festivities,” said Nick Naung Naung,
Country Manager for Finnair in charge of Singapore, Malaysia and
Indonesia. “We want to thank our
loyal customers for their continued support, and also like-minded
partners like Changi Airport Group without whom it would have been
a tremendous challenge to reach today’s milestone. We will
continue to put our hearts and mind towards achieving our aim
of becoming a design airline, and bring to our customer unique
experiences which touch all five senses.”
Lim Ching Kiat,
CAG’s Senior Vice President for Market Development added, “CAG
congratulates Finnair on achieving this milestone and we are
delighted to join in the celebrations. Despite some level of
uncertainty in the market, Finnair has done well on the
Helsinki-Singapore route since it relaunched the service in May
last year. ogether with Finnair's quality product and strong
network in Europe as well as Changi Airport’s excellent
connectivity in Asia Pacific, we are in an excellent position to
tap demand for travel between the two regions. We look forward
to developing our partnership with Finnair to continue to
pursue growth opportunities together.”
