Hawaiian Airlines will upgrade its daily flights
on the Sydney-Honolulu route to new, larger Airbus A330-200
aircraft from Wednesday, 25 April 2012, almost one month earlier
than planned.
The wide-body, twin-aisle A330s seat 294
passengers in a two-class cabin, 30 more than the Boeing 767-300ER
aircraft which Hawaiian currently uses on the route.
The upgrade to the A330 will increase Hawaiian’s
Sydney – Honolulu seat capacity by 210 seats per week, or almost
11,000 seats per year – the equivalent of 41 additional Boeing 767
flights.
In addition to more seats and a larger cabin, all
of Hawaiian’s A330 aircraft feature an on-demand entertainment
system with an LCD touch-screen monitor in each seatback and a
wide array of movies, TV programs and video games.
All
passengers on Hawaiian Airlines flights from Australia also
receive meals, drinks, video and audio entertainment and a generous allowance of two checked baggage items, each weighing up
to 32 kilograms.
“The Airbus A330 is the new flagship
aircraft type for Hawaiian Airlines and we are excited that it
will now operate to Sydney,” said Sherilyn Robinson, Hawaiian’s
General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Australia. “As well
as delivering a new standard of in-flight service for our
customers, the A330 will deliver more seats to the Sydney-Honolulu
route at a time when extra capacity is needed to meet increasing
demand for holiday and group travel.”
Hawaiian currently has six A330s
in service and will add three more by mid-2012. The introduction
of the sixth A330 last week has provided the additional capacity
which will enable the airline to upgrade its Sydney-Honolulu
services next month.
The new A330s also will enable
Hawaiian to launch flights on new routes including daily, nonstop
services between Honolulu and New York City, commencing on 4
June, 2012.
Hawaiian Airlines flight HA 452 departs Sydney
daily at 21:20, crossing the international dateline and arriving
in Honolulu at 10:10 the same day. The return flight, HA 451,
departs Honolulu daily at 11:50 and arrives in Sydney at 19:20
the following day.
Hawaiian allows travellers on the route to
combine different fare types in each direction, including Economy
Class one way and Business Class the other.
