Finnair and Malaysia Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement,
increasing access to the airlines’ respective hubs in Helsinki and
Kuala Lumpur.
Through the new arrangement, selected Malaysia
Airlines services between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Bangkok and
Hong Kong will carry the Finnair flight code.
Likewise, Malaysia
Airlines’ flight code will be used on selected Finnair services
between Helsinki and London, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
“Finnair is very pleased to offer our customers
flying to Southeast Asia extended reach to Kuala Lumpur, the
cultural and economic heart of Malaysia and a fast-growing and
prosperous metropolis,” said Hannu Sundberg, Finnair Vice
President, Commercial Partnerships. “By the same token we are also
pleased to welcome Malaysia Airlines’ customers to Helsinki and establish closer cooperation between our two airlines. Malaysia
Airlines is a natural counterpart for us and we look forward to welcoming the company to the oneworld alliance.”
Malaysia
Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Government & International
Affairs, Mr Germal Singh, said, “Through
this partnership we can expand our reach in Europe without
operating our own flights between Malaysia and the Scandinavian
region. As one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the
Asia Pacific region, we are confident that more tourists from the
Scandinavian region will use this code share and visit Malaysia.”
On 1 February 2013, Malaysia Airlines will
join the oneworld alliance, of which Finnair is a member.
