The Hong Kong Tourism Board will stage the “New
Year - New World - Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” on New Year’s
Eve (31 December) to usher in the year 2013.
Title-sponsored by New World Development Company
Limited, the show will feature an eight-minute display of
pyrotechnics on various buildings, with Hong Kong Convention and
Exhibition Centre as the focal point.
In addition, pyrotechnics will be launched
on Victoria Harbour to enrich the visual experience and showcase
Hong Kong’s spectacular appeal.
HKTB Chairman The Hon James Tien said, “The HKTB
is deeply grateful to New World Development Company Limited for being the title sponsor of this year’s New Year Countdown
Celebrations, which will not only take on a new venue and format,
but also be the biggest in scale in the event’s history. In terms
of venue, the show will move to Wanchai, with the iconic Hong
Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre as the pivot. As for the
format, we will launch pyrotechnics on both the land and the sea
for the first time. Beginning on the sea, the pyrotechnics will
move landward in three layers to highlight the stunning Victoria Harbour and world-famous night vistas of Hong Kong. The
HKTB will provide satellite feed of the celebrations to major
international TV stations, so as to allow more people to join in
the countdown and put Hong Kong, Asia’s World City on par with
other world cities during the New Year celebrations.”
Mr
Adrian Cheng, Executive Director and Joint General Manager of New
World Development Company Limited, title sponsor of “New Year -
New World – Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” said, “This year is
the group’s 40th Listing Anniversary. The group has been growing
and developing together with Hong Kong, and building a better
society with our whole heart. We join hands with Hong Kong people
and strive to pursue excellence with perseverance. Featuring this countdown event, we hope to share the joy of celebrating this
special moment with all local residents and bring hope to the
coming New Year.”
Vantage points for
viewing the show include the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, the
promenade from the Avenue of Stars to Hong Kong Cultural Centre,
the promenade at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai and the area
near Central Pier.
