According to the September 2012 STR/McGraw Hill
Construction Dodge Pipeline Report, Canada's hotel development
pipeline comprises 195 projects totaling 21,011 rooms.
This represents a 0.3% increase in the number of
rooms in the total active pipeline compared to September 2011.
Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upper
Upscale segment reported the largest increase in rooms in the
total active pipeline, rising 244.0 percent with 867 rooms,
followed by the Economy segment (+ 130.2% with 679 rooms)
and the Midscale segment (+62.5% with 564 rooms). The
Luxury segment experienced the largest decrease falling 100% with no rooms in the total active pipeline.
Three segments reported increases in rooms under
construction of more than 30%: the Economy segment (+183.1% with 252 rooms); the Upper Midscale segment (+76.2%
with 2,067 rooms); and the Upscale segment (+33.1% with
2,609 rooms).
