Finnair is planning to renew its pre-flight
services in order to offer smoother departures for its customers.
Finnair aims to considerably increase the number of self-service
check-in kiosks and Baggage Drop desks at Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
Customers will be advised to check in at a time most convenient
for them well in advance either using a text message, Finnairs
recently renewed website or the self-service check-in kiosks at
the airport, all of which will shorten the queuing time in the
departure hall.
Service desks will continue to assist customers
with special needs and priority customers while economy class
service desks will gradually be changed into Baggage Drop desks
where any hold luggage can be left after the check-in.
"Checking-in prior to arriving at the airport is the norm with
majority of airlines and has quickly become more common among our customers, too. It enables flexible departures and it means less
times in queues at the airport," said Anssi Komulainen, Finnair's
SVP, Customer Service. "As a whole, the passengers route from the
terminal door to the security check will become clearer and
faster. The customer will be assisted and guided at the airport
even better than before."
Finnair offers its customers
several options for checking in prior to arriving at the airport:
customers can check in online or using their mobile phone, without
queuing, at a time most convenient for them and as early as 36
hours prior to the departure.
Checking-in at the airport using the
self-service check-in kiosks is also easy and effortless.
The changes will be implemented gradually and Finnair will inform
about the schedule on its website during February-March. Finnair will also update its mobile phone check-in service making it
more user-friendlier and smoother.
Since 6 February 2012 economy
class customers who have reserved their flights online or at
Finnair agencies in Finland or Scandinavia can also reserve a seat
of their liking for a small fee well before the check-in. By
reserving seats in advance customers can, for example, ensure
adjacent seats with the person traveling with them. Seat
reservations can still also be made free of charge on the internet
with the online service opening 36 hours prior to the departure.
The seat reservations will be available for Finnair flights
departing on 15 March 2012 or later, excluding routes to Japan with the
seat reservation system becoming available for destination in
Japan on 1 November 2012.
The planned changes in check-in
services will impact the tasks of the customer services personnel
and Finnair has already begun negotiations with the personnel
representatives.
