David Wicker has been appointed General Manager
of the New World Saigon Hotel.
Mr. Wicker moves into the role from his former
position as General Manager of New World Wuhan Hotel in China, a
role he has held for the past three and a half years.
He follows the transfer of New World Hotel
Saigon General Manager Henrik Iversen, who will take over
operations as General Manager at New World Dalian Hotel in China.
With more than 30 years of experience, Mr.
Wicker, a
British national, was born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa. His involvement in the industry spans three continents (Europe,
Australia and Asia) and 10 countries (Scotland, England, Australia, Fiji, Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, Indonesia, China
and now Vietnam).
Mr. Wicker joined New World Hotels in China in
January 2009 in Wuhan, where he played a key role in strengthening
the market position of the property. Under his leadership, the
hotel was established as a market leader for business and leisure
travelers.
During his career, he has crossed paths with
many international hotel names, starting in the food and beverage
sector before branching out to event management, executive
assistant management and finally general management in 1997.
“Having had the pleasure of working in remote island locations
such as Fiji and Indonesia or the bustling metropolis of Shanghai
and London, I have been blessed with meeting some of the
friendliest and most caring people in the world,” said Mr. Wicker.
“Now I have the opportunity to expand this list to include
Vietnam, a country of rich cultural value. I have to admit,
accepting this position did not require a second thought. The
citizens of Southeast Asia, including those of Vietnam, have the
most natural hospitality traits of any I have had the pleasure of
working beside. I know I will benefit from their gentle guidance
and sincerity.”
The New World Saigon Hotel is located directly
in the city center opposite the lush 23 September Park and just
steps away from the famous Ben Thanh market.
The 533-room hotel features comprehensive business
facilities, four restaurants and lounges offering a wide spectrum
of local and international cuisines, a health club and an outdoor
swimming pool.
