An exuberant hiking group, including about 100
in-town visitors, jogged from the Peak to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir on
Sunday to kick-start this year’s Great Outdoors Hong Kong
campaign, which is organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB)
and co-organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation
Department (AFCD) to promote the beautiful natural scenery of Hong
Kong.
The campaign offers free guided tours along five
thematic hiking trails for visitors on five consecutive Sundays
until 9 December. There is a quota of 100 for each tour.
Interested visitors should sign up at an HKTB Visitor Centre at
least two days before a tour takes place. The four remaining routes are:
18 November - Island Landscapes - Yung Shue Wan to
Sok Kwu Wan (Lamma Island)
25 November - Geological Landscapes - MacLehose
Trail Sections 1 & 2, from High Island Reservoir East Dam to Sai
Wan Pavilion
2 December - Urban Getaway - Dragon’s Back
9 December - Heritage Hike - Tung Chung to Tai O
In addition to the guided tours, the HKTB has
produced an up-to-date “Great Outdoors Hong Kong” activity guide
to help visitors, especially FITs, plan
their own hiking trips. The guide introduces various hiking trails
and islands in Hong Kong, and offers information on both free and
commercial tours organised by local hiking groups and the travel
trade.
In select short-haul markets, the HKTB has
rolled out promotions to raise awareness of the campaign,
collaborating, for example, with a popular sportswear brand and
travel agencies in Korea to recruit enthusiastic hikers to take
part in “Great Outdoors Hong Kong”.
In long-haul markets, the HKTB
has invited media guests, including ones from American magazines
Fortune, Passport Magazine and Men’s Journal, as well as Germany’s
n-TV station, to explore Hong Kong’s natural world and showcase
its beauty to their readers or viewers.
