Worldhotels has honoured Kenji Shiojima,
Managing Director and General Manager of Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo,
with its 2012 Leadership Award.
The accolade recognises outstanding
hoteliers in the global network of independent hotels for
“extraordinary achievements as individuals as well as leaders”.
The award follows the Japan Hotel Association
paying tribute to him as Hotelier of the Year in 2010.
A hotelier for 30 years, Mr. Shiojima earned
widespread praise and admiration for his contribution to relief
efforts for victims of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake. His
hotel created various avenues for donations and he personally
delivered 7.5 million Yen to the Miyagi, Fukushima and Iwate
prefectures.
With a lifelong commitment to the Japan hotel
industry, he has also served on the Leaders of General Managers
Committee in Tokyo since 2010, and was Training Commissioner of
the Japan Hotel Association from 1988-2007.
He is also actively engaged in the local SKAL
Chapter and a firm supporter of the Terry Fox Run – Run for Hope
that he helped to establish in 1992.
“The award honours the work of remarkable
leaders who are pioneers of leadership, social and economic change
within our industry,” said Worldhotels Executive Vice President
Asia Pacific, Roland Jegge. “For over 30 years, Shiojima-san has
built a solid reputation as a hospitality veteran of distinction,
respected and highly regarded for his insightful leadership,
business acumen, strategic foresight and equally for his sense of
compassion and dedication.”
Daniel Simon of the former Four Seasons Hotel
Tokyo, where Mr. Shiojima was previously General Manager, added, “Shiojima-san
is a role model for hoteliers as everything he does embodies
service and passion for our industry. I am indeed honored to call
him my friend.”
Mr Shiojima was General Manager of Four Season’s
Chinzan-So Tokyo from 1998-2006, when he was appointed CEO of
Fujita Resort Development Co. Ltd. He took the helm of Hotel
Metropolitan Tokyo in 2008.
