Japan Airlines has applied to the Japanese
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to
increase its international cargo fuel surcharge from 1 March 2011
for flights departing from Japan.
Since 1 April 2009, JAL has adjusted its
cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the
one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month
before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for
the month of January in 2011 was US$109.83 per barrel, the
benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge
level will be within the range of US$105.00 to US$109.99 per
barrel.
The international cargo
fuel surcharge will therefore increase on long-haul international
routes from 101 yen per kg to 108 yen, on medium-haul
international routes from 87 yen per kg to 93 yen, and on
short-haul routes from 73 yen per kg to 78 yen accordingly.
