Stefan Lindfors has been chosen to update the
design elements of Finnair flights. Lindfors, one of the best
known Finnish modern designers, has won many awards around the
world for his work.
Design is an important element of Finnair's
heritage, which has been apparent throughout the company's
history. Timeless design is represented, for example, by the
Ultima Thule Arctic glass series, designed for Finnair by Tapio
Wirkkala in 1969, which was introduced for the first time on
Finnair's New York route. Now Finnair's customer promise is
"designed for you", which extends to all of the company's
activities.
“For Finnair, design does not only mean
tableware, uniforms and aircraft interiors. Finnair's design
extends, for example, from route network planning and service all
the way to the frequent-flyer programme. With good design, we can
create a practical and functional but, at the same time, memorable
and surprising travel experience,” said Vice President Jarkko
Konttinen, who is responsible for the Finnair brand and marketing
communications.
Stefan Lindfors, said, “The most significant
insights of my career have occurred on aircraft, so I am delighted
to get the opportunity to influence flight design. Cooperation
with Finnair is an honour for me, because the company is a pioneer
in the use of Finnish design.”
Lindfors' eventful career has stretched over 25
years already, during which he has been involved in creating
around 200 projects in the fields of interior architecture,
design, sculpture and film directing. His work has been recognised
by, among others, the Väinö Tanner Trailblazer Award, Good Design,
the Tokyo Design Award and the London Kerrang! Best Music Video
Award.
