Cathay Pacific has launched a competition
through its official Facebook page that offers one lucky winner
the chance to travel the world on the Cathay Pacific network.
All it takes to get started in the “Travel the
World in 80 Days with Cathay Pacific” competition is to click
“Like” on the airline’s fan page on Facebook. Those who wish to
enter should then submit a short video, photo or story through the
Facebook page explaining how they would spend 80 days travelling
around the world.
Entries can be submitted until 6 March 2011 and
all the materials submitted will be displayed on the Facebook
page. The competition is open to people aged 18 (Japan residents
must be 20+) and over who are resident in one of the following
countries/territories: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India,
Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa,
Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Terms and
conditions apply.
After
viewing all the entries, the airline will shortlist a total of
eight entrants and invite them to Hong Kong - covering their
airfares and accommodation - for a final panel interview and a
one-day challenge from 12 to 14 April. The challenge will involve
the finalists touring Hong Kong for a day and using their
initiative and creativity to post Twitter “tweets” and upload
photos that capture the essence of the city’s attractions.
The overall winner will receive unlimited
round-trip Economy Class tickets from Hong Kong to any destination
of their choice on the networks of Cathay Pacific and sister
airline Dragonair for 80 days between 1 June and 31 August 2011.
Also included is three nights’ hotel accommodation in each
destination, a daily allowance of up to HK$2,800 per trip and
global travel insurance.
In return, the winner will be asked to
submit a daily report on his or her travel experiences, including
photos and videos, for posting on the Cathay Pacific Facebook fan
page.
Cathay Pacific General Manager Marketing & Product
James Ginns said, “We are very excited about launching this unique
competition, which will generate interest around the world and
help to highlight the connectivity provided by Cathay Pacific’s
international network. Social network sites are an increasingly
important tool through which we can engage with our customers and
we are pleased to run the ‘Travel the World in 80 Days’
competition through Facebook, incorporating other social media
channels such as Twitter.”
