On Sunday, 22 May 2011, the Evason Phuket resort
presented Phuket residents with a delicious brunch all in aid of
raising funds for the Soi Dog Foundation (SDF).
The luxury
beachside resort generously gave the charity the cuisine and venue for the
event. Through the sale of tickets, raffle prizes and
an auction, the event raised a total sum of THB 600,000.
Supporters of all ages and backgrounds attended, uniting to
support the worthy cause. Impressive entertainment by the dancers
from Palazzo kept the audience on the edge of their seats and
encouraged a party spirit on the hot and sunny day in Phuket.
John Dalley, founder of SDF said in his opening
speech that the foundation costs nearly THB 1 million per month
(US$ 33,000) to run, and while the overheads are low regarding
administration due to the kindness of volunteers giving their
time, the main outgoings are medical supplies, staffing costs and
food.
“The foundation’s
objective has always been to finish the job in Phuket,” he said. “This money raised today will go directly towards securing the remainder of the land where the shelter is currently
located and thereby maintaining SDF's presence on Phuket. However, there is still a long way to go yet.”
The foundation has to now raise an additional
THB 4 million to
secure the remainder of the land so that they can expand and
operate fully.
