Aston International and PT. Sinar Global Investama have celebrated the groundbreaking for what is set to become Kupang’s largest hotel development to date, the Aston Kupang Hotel & Convention Center.

The Aston Kupang Hotel will become the largest international 4-star hotel in East Nusa Tenggara, offering 198 guest rooms and suites including a 120 sqm Presidential Suite and a 1000 sqm Grand Ballroom as well as auxiliary meeting rooms, 2 restaurants and a wellness center with spa and outdoor pool.

With a population of approximately 400,000, Kupang is the principal city and port of East Nusa Tenggara and developed as an important trading port during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial eras. It was also the final destination of Captain William Bligh who was set adrift in an open boat during the Mutiny on the Bounty in 1789 just 56 nautical miles of Timor. With its proximity to Darwin, Kupang also serves as a popular port of entry for Australian tourists exploring the vast Indonesian archipelago.

Aston International’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mr. Norbert Vas, said, “Kupang is the commercial hub for East Nusa Tenggara and has potential to become a regional MICE destination to be reckoned with. This new development underlines our confidence in East Indonesia and was only possible thanks to the commercial success of our other East Indonesia Hotels in Jayapura, Manokwari, Manado and Ambon.”

Aston International currently operates 35 hotels in Indonesia and plans on opening an additional 20 by the end of 2012.
