The Independence Hotel, Resort & Spa in
Sihanoukville, Cambodia has joined Sterling Hotels.
An hotel with historical significance, the
seven-story Independence Hotel, Resort & Spa opened in 1964 as
Sihanoukville's most luxurious and elite accommodations – and the
tallest building in Cambodia at the time.
The building was designed by French architect M.
Mondet of the partnership Leroy & Mondet, who were also
responsible for many of the important constructions in Phnom Penh
during the fifties and sixties, while the interior was designed by
no other than King Norodom Sihanouk, the ruler of the Kingdom of
Cambodia during that era. As one of the royal family's showpieces,
the hotel played host to many famous names, including Jacqueline
Kennedy in 1967.
Fully restored to its former beauty and glory in
2007, the resort offers 88 guestrooms, all with views overlooking
the waters of the Gulf of Thailand. To be completed in the last
quarter of 2011, seven rooms and villas – one of which is a pool
villa – will offer oceanfront views and sunsets.
Located in the heart of a tropical forest with
access to a white sand beach, an outdoor pool and fitness center,
the resort is an ideal getaway for travelers. Nearby
activities include scuba diving, island excursions, fishing, and
kayaking.
Authentic Khmer cuisine and international menus
are offered at two restaurants, one of which is alfresco on the
beachfront.
Conference facilities cater for up to 650 persons with
two ballrooms and a boardroom while a comprehensive spa with 12 rooms
is currently under construction and will be completed by end of
2011.
To celebrate its membership of Sterling Hotels,
the resort is offering a Stay One Night, Get
Second Night Free promotion with rates starting at US$300 for a deluxe suite.
The offer
includes breakfast for two, wireless internet access, early
check-in and late check-out, 30% discount on massages, 20%
discount on food and beverage, and 10% discount on laundry. Valid
through 31 October 2011.
"We are proud to partner
with Sterling Hotels to provide the necessary technology tools,
global sales, and marketing assistance as well as to promote the
destination," said Thomas Lam, group advisor and general manager
of Independence Hotel, Resort & Spa. "With the completion of the
new rooms and spa facilities, Independence Hotel, Resort & Spa
will be one of Sihanoukville's best accommodations."
