John Webb Joins Langham Xintiandi as General Manager

Mr. John Webb has been appointed as General Manager of the Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai.

He joined Langham Hotels International (LHI) in May, 2010 and is a distinguished hotelier with more than 28 years experience in the hospitality industry, with over half of that time as a General Manager.

Although he has lived in Shanghai since 2008, the Langham, Xintiandi is his first appointment as General Manager with LHI. Since he joined, John has overseen the development and pre-opening stages of Langham’s flagship Hotel in mainland China.

The Langham, Xintiandi opened its doors on 15 October 2010 and will have a total of 357 guest rooms and suites, including three restaurants, Langham’s signature Chuan Spa and Langham Club Lounge, when it is fully completed in Spring 2011.

Prior to this posting, John has enjoyed a distinguished career with many high profile luxury hotels and resorts throughout SE Asia and India. Over the past 10 years he has managed five-star properties throughout China, the Philippines, Phuket (Thailand),Vietnam and Mumbai (India) for Marriott International.

During the course of his career, he has won several awards including ‘General Manager of the Year’ on two occasions; as well as ‘Hotel of the Year’ on two occasions for hotels under his tenure.

John started his career with Thistle Hotels in the UK in the early 1980s and spent nine years in various food & beverage positions before moving to Australia in 1990. He continued his Australian career in food & beverage, holding many senior management roles and by 1995 was promoted to his first General Manager position in Sydney, Australia.

John is a family man, enjoys entertaining and socializing, travel and culture. He lives in Shanghai with his wife Claire, and two young children.
