Singapore’s Marina Bay area will soon see
boating enthusiasts pit wit and skills for the first time as they
aim to emerge champion of the Bay Challenge, which will take place
14 - 15 May 2011, in conjunction with Boat Asia 2011.
Race organiser, TMX Show Productions, is
partnering the Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF) to bring this
race to the Bay for the first time.
The
Bay Challenge will see 16 regional teams of three-crew members
competing in high performance Laser Bahias in a match race format.
Two boats will be locked in a one-on-one battle around a two-lap
course. Lasting a short but intense 12 minutes, each match will
see the two contesting teams jostle for pole position and pitting
their tactical and speed skills against each other. The resulting
champion team will walk away with the Challenge trophy and will
also have the honour of being crowned the winner of the first-ever
Bay Challenge.
Mr. Tan Wearn Haw, CEO, Singapore Sailing
Federation said, “Singapore Sailing’s role is to inject vibrancy
into the sailing scene and grow the sport. Making it a viable and
self-sustaining ecosystem would be a testament to the value
proposition of sailing. So we are happy to sanction the upcoming
Bay Challenge and excited to grow Bay Challenge as a key sailing
event for Singapore and the region with TMX.”
Aiming to attract at least 10,000 spectators over two days, Bay
Challenge will be set against Marina Bay’s spectacular skyline
which includes Marina Bay Sands, The ArtsScience Museum, The
Promontory @ Marina Bay and Marina Bay Financial Centre, one of
Singapore’s largest integrated mixed-use developments and
leading business addresses.
Spectators at the Bay Challenge at
Marina Bay can also visit Boat Asia 2011. Already in its 19th edition,
Boat Asia is one of Asia’s largest and longest running boat shows
and features a
stellar showcase of sleek sailing yachts, luxurious powerboats and
prestigious lifestyle brands.
