Chris Chan has been named as the new Dean of the
Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management (CNI), as well
as professor of accounting at the Cornell School of Hotel
Administration (SHA).
By joining Cornell University and Nanyang
Technological University as dean of CNI, Chan will provide
academic, intellectual, strategic, and administrative leadership
to the institute, as well as further elevate the CNI brand in
Asia. In addition, he will direct CNI's prestigious 12-month
Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) program and strengthen
corporate relations. The MMH program is housed at Nanyang
Technological University's campus in Singapore. Chan, who will be
based in Singapore, will begin his duties in November.
"With his business expertise and leadership
experience, Chris Chan is prepared to lead CNI into the future,"
said Michael Johnson, dean and E. M. Statler Professor at SHA.
"We're looking forward to the growth and development of the MMH
program in Asia under Chris's direction."
Chan is currently
an associate professor of accounting as well as assistant dean and
director of MBA programs at the University of Hong Kong (HKU),
where he is responsible for brand development, marketing and
admissions, financial and program management, academic and student
affairs, and industry and media relations. Under his leadership,
the HKU MBA has become one of the top three programs in Asia. In
2009, Chan received the prestigious university-wide Outstanding
Teaching Award from HKU; he has also been a two-time winner of the
Business Faculty's Outstanding Teacher Award. Before joining the
University of Hong Kong, Chan was a tenured faculty member at the
Macquarie Graduate School of Management in Sydney, Australia.
"Asia represents the future for the hospitality business, and
I am excited to lead the joint effort between two prestigious
institutions to develop leaders in this region. Combining an Ivy
League education and Asia business expertise, the MMH program
prepares graduates for lustrous careers in one of the most diverse
and fastest growing industries in Asia," said Chan. "Leveraging on
a strong foundation and broad corporate support, I am confident
that CNI will continue its rise to become Asia's premier provider
of hospitality education and advanced industry knowledge."
Chan has a diverse consulting and executive education portfolio
with a wide range of companies in the Asia Pacific region. His
work has focused on strategic brand development, financial
performance metrics, corporate governance, social responsibility,

including LVMH, ABN Amro Bank, China MinSheng Bank, Lucent
Technologies, Agilent Technologies, General Mills, Hong Kong
