I Wayan Arya sila Arsadhana, a 4-year old from
Bali Indonesia, underwent a successful heart correction surgery at
the National Heart Institute recently. He is the latest
beneficiary of AirAsia’s ‘Donate Your Loose Change’ Campaign, one
of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes
kick-started in 2008 to raise funds to help needy heart patients
to carry-out treatment at the institute.
The child’s father, I Wayan Mudiarta, said, “I’d
like to thank AirAsia for helping my child gain a normal life. His
condition is very much improved after the surgery. I wish AirAsia
all the best, and I praise the airline’s noble effort in providing
assistance and care to those in need.”
AirAsia also contributed free flights from Bali
to Kuala Lumpur for the child and his parents. I Wayan Arya was
referred to the institute with severe cyanosis, a physical sign
causing bluish discolouration of the skin and mucous membranes.
Cyanosis is caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood. It is seen in
infants at birth as a result of heart defects, respiratory
distress syndrome, or lung and breathing problems.
According to Dr. Sivakumar Sivalingam, who
attended to I Wayan Arya’s case, the child is responding very well
to the treatment and showed tremendous progress. A thorough
check-up was performed including an echocardiogram, which did not
show any further problems with the child’s heart. I Wayan Arya is
expected to enjoy a healthy and exponential growth post-surgery,
as the heart defect which affected his development has been
successfully corrected.
The ‘Donate Your Loose Change’ campaign raises
funds to help needy heart patients to carry-out treatment at IJN.
Launched on the 1st February 2008, funds are collected from
generous passengers travelling on all AirAsia flights.
